You'd think labels would be happy of the extra (and free) publicity, especially with some of the older tracks

I'd understand the whole copyright thing if the midis were full length, but a majority of them are only small sections of a track. I'm not sure of the exact number but I'm willing to guess around 90% of the midis are just the melody and bassline

Most labels probably will have no problem with the midis, home made remixes etc as long as they don't lose any money on it but NEVER ask for money or sell midis in any way without permision from the label/owner as that can cause serious juridical problems.

well, why don`t you create a donate-option?

free to use... so u will get a first REAL view about the will of ur members. i think this is a simple and good way. if the people will donate, so they will do it even when the button comes alive. ;)

and donating as an free option isn`t like acting as a business company.

Donations were accepted before and John said that they were quite low to even handle the hosting cost.
